Digital Policy
Taking responsibility for people, business and industry
When it comes to policy on digital affairs, we are taking responsibility – in Germany, in Europe and in the world. The BMDS is helping to shape digital transformation to strengthen business and industry – with clearly formulated rules and strong partners, based on European values, open to innovation and with a focus on the future.
In Germany – Making life easier for individuals, strengthening business and industry
Our National Digital Policy creates the framework for a digital Germany that makes life easier for individuals, strengthens business and industry and promotes innovation. To achieve this, the relevant tasks have been brought together within the Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation (BMDS), with clearly drawn divisions of responsibility, improved cooperation and solutions that work in daily life. Our focus is on usefulness, security and trust.
In Europe – Implementing EU legislation to promote innovation
In implementing key European Union legislation such as the AI Act and the Data Act, the BMDS is working to provide practical, business-friendly solutions that boost innovation. We intend to use the leeway available to the EU’s member states to reduce unnecessary bureaucracy for business and industry.
In the world – For an open and secure internet
In an increasingly interconnected world, international digital policy is taking on greater strategic significance. Germany is an active participant in shaping the digital world order – with international rules, shared standards and strong partnerships. We play a central role in representing the Federal Government’s digital policy in international bodies such as the G7, the G20, the OECD and the United Nations. We are also committed to safeguarding a free, secure and open internet without censorship or blocked access.
